Volkswagen has already announced plans to expand the VW Atlas into a family of SUVs and now it may be planning a similar strategy with the smaller Tiguan. Auto Bild is reporting that VW could introduce a sportier Tiguan Coupe as soon as next year.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard a report about a more stylish and sporty Tiguan, since back in 2016 a VW exec described the idea as “very exciting idea.”

The addition of a Tiguan Coupe would give VW a rival to the growing number of crossover coupes, like the BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. At the lower end it could also rival the Nissan Rogue Sport. The smaller Tiguan Coupe would also give buyers another option that don’t need the extra space that the second-generation Tiguan provides.

Auto Bild is reporting that the VW Tiguan Coupe could debut in 2018, but VW has yet to make any announcements.
