As expected VW has unveiled a new electric concept that could preview a new Microbus. Dubbed the Budd-e concept, the electric concept features a 101 kWh battery pack that gives it a driving range up to 373 miles on a single charge.
Based on VW’s new Modular Electronic Toolkit platform, which has been created just for electric vehicles, the Budd-e concept has two electric motors and can reach speeds up to 93 mph. In as little as 15 minutes, the battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent of its capacity.

Visually the Budd-e concept does take some inspiration from the original Microbus, but LED headlights, the lack of door handles and wing mirrors bring it into the 21st century. Inside the interior has several displays that do away with the traditional mirrors, switches and dials. Passengers can also use a new gesture control system to open the doors.
Will the Microbus ever return? According to some rumors it could happen as early as 2017.
