Last week Volvo released a few teasers of the Volvo XC40 SUV, but the teasers didn’t really reveal anything substantial about the new small SUV. Now an accidental leak is giving us our first look at the compact XC40 SUV.

The teaser on Instagram only reveals the rear of the XC40, which happens to look a lot like the rear of the 40.1 concept, which was a preview of the XC40. Given the fact that the XC40’s rear is so close to the concept, we can expect the rest of the exterior to also keep most of the design details from the concept.

The compact XC40 will be based on Volvo’s new Compact Modular Architecture, which will also be used for the new S40 and V40 models. Under the hood we can expect a range of three- and four-cylinder engines, in addition to a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Volvo hasn’t announced when the XC40 will be available, but it is expected to debut by the end of the year.
