Volvo has chosen next week’s 2012 LA Auto Show for the global auto show debut of the Volvo S60 Polestar Concept. Thanks to Volvo’s official performance partner, Polestar, the Volvo S60 Polestar Concept is the fastest Volvo concept ever made.

“We approached this project by looking at the production Volvo S60 as a platform for a potential race car — and the culmination of that data went into the design of the S60 Polestar Concept,” explained Jan Andersson, chief engineer at Polestar.

The S60 Polestar Concept is powered by a turbocharged, inline six-cylinder engine has been tuned to generate 508 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft. of torque, which is a significant improvement over the 300 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque from the T6 engine in the production car. The S60 Polestar Concept reaches 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed over 186 mph.

The concept also gets a lowered, widened and reinforced chassis, a tuned Haldex all-wheel-drive system, and Öhlins suspension.

Volvo is reportedly discussing the idea of producing the S60 Polestar, but no final decision has been announced.
