Fans of last years Volvo Concept Coupe will be sad to hear that production plans for the sexy coupe are not a priority for Volvo. Last year the concept was revealed as the first of three concepts that were meant to preview Volvo’s future design language and the flexibility of its new Scalable Product Architecture.
Positive reaction from the concept fueled rumors that Volvo would produce the concept, but now Volvo’s exterior design manager Anders Gunnarson has revealed that the coupe has not received the green light. Speaking to Auto Express Gunnarson stated that Volvo does want to build the coupe, but for now the project is “on hold.”

“The coupe style of car is something that the British and Americans have always done very well – a coupe is the car a car manufacturer wants. We very much want to build the Concept Coupe.”

For now the P1800-inspired Concept Coupe is on hold because Volvo wants to focus all of its efforts on the second-generation XC90 SUV. Gunnarson stated, “For us, the XC90 is the bolt that holds everything together. If you remove the bolt, everything falls apart. This car is a must and has to be a success – there is no going back, we cannot do it wrong.”
