Volkswagen is currently working on a new narrow-angle V6 direct-injection engine according to sources from VW’s engineering headquarters in Braunschweig. VW’s new head of engine development, Fritz Eichler is overseeing the development.
The new engine is being designed with a twin-turbocharged setup and was previewed by the Design Vision GTI concept. The concept was powered by a 3.0L V6 with twin-turbochargers and a final output of 503 horsepower and 413 lb-ft. of torque. The production version will be more civilized with output between 340-450 horsepower. When the new engine is released it will be offered in several VW models, including the Passat, VW’s new larger crossover and maybe even the next Scirocco.
