Midsize and compact crossovers have quickly become the top choice for consumers looking for a new SUV/ crossover. The next big trend is going to be the introduction of new smaller subcompact crossovers with the introduction of new models from Honda, Toyota and now Mazda. Mazda has confirmed that it is working on a new smaller crossover that will likely share its platform with the new Mazda3.

Honda has already confirmed plans to introduce a Fit based crossover that will be built at its new plant in Mexico. Honda also previewed the new crossover earlier this year with the Urban SUV Concept. Toyota hasn’t confirmed any set plans, but it is reportedly looking at a new smaller crossover for the Scion brand.

The new smaller crossovers will join a segment that currently only consists of the Buick Encore, Mini Countryman and Nissan Juke.
