Toyota has announced that the replacement for the Yaris subcompact will be powered by the same Skyactiv four-cylinder engine as the upcoming Mazda2. The replacement for the lackluster Yaris will actually be built on the same platform as the next Mazda2, but will have unique sheet metal.
The Toyota subcompact be built at Mazda’s plant in Salamanca, Mexisco, where 50,000 vehicles will be built for Toyota. The Toyota badged vehicle could enter production as early as next April, but it hasn’t been announced when it will actually happen.

The all-new 2015 Mazda2 was previewed this week by the Hazumi concept in Geneva and is expected to arrive before the end of the year.
