With the upcoming arrival of the Toyota Supra, could Toyota be planning the return of another iconic nameplate – the Toyota Celica? Toyota reportedly filed a trademark last month with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the Celica nameplate, which could mean that it will be used again in the near future.

Toyota Celica Trademark

What exactly could Toyota be planning? No one knows for sure, but there’s a slight chance that it could be used for the next-generation 86 coupe, although that does seem unlikely. The 86 name is marketed globally so it would be a bold move for Toyota to ditch it. Maybe Toyota could be looking at a new front-wheel drive coupe now that the Scion tC is gone? It does seem a little far fetched considering how small the coupe segment has shrunk.

Again no one knows for sure, but there have been other reports that Toyota could be bringing back its other sports car nameplate, the MR2, so it could happen. How much would Toyota fans love it if Toyota brought back all three of its sports cars, the Supra, Celica and MR2. Sadly for now we only know that the Supra is coming back, so we’ll have to wait and see.
