Ford has basically given up on the Ford Fiesta in North America, which means that we won’t be getting the next-generation Fiesta or even the Fiesta ST hot hatch.

“It’s simply a matter of a lack of interest in the B-segment in America. It doesn’t make sense, nor is it possible financially speaking, to import a single trim level, and a niche one at that,” Leo Roeks, Ford Performance’s European director told CarBuzz.

The news isn’t that surprising since it was reported two months ago that the next-generation Fiesta wouldn’t be offered on this side of the Atlantic. Will other automakers soon follow suit and discontinue their B-segment vehicles in North America? With the arrival of smaller crossovers, demand for models like the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris is expected to decline. Ford expects would be Fiesta buyers will end up buying the upcoming Ford EcoSport crossover.
