Small car sales have continued to decline in the United States as more buyers move towards crossovers. Now we have our latest victim, since Ford is not going to continue to sell the Ford Fiesta in the U.S. after the 2017 model year.
Sales of the Ford Fiesta have dropped off significantly in the U.S.
Ford recently unveiled an all-new Fiesta, but one of Ford’s engineers has revealed that a 2018 Fiesta will not be offered here.
“The previous model was a global Ford product, and with the new generation, we are targeting only Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In North America — especially in the U.S. –, China, and Latin America, the demand for such vehicles is declining, and we are reacting accordingly,” revealed Robert Stiller, Ford’s B-segment vehicle program manager.
Ford has yet to officially announce that the Fiesta is done in the U.S., but a confirmation is expected soon. Sales of the Fiesta have dropped off significantly over the last few years, so it’s not too surprising that Ford is going to not offer it here. According to autoevolution, Ford only sold 48,807 Fiestas last year in the United States, which is down from its peak in 2013 with 71,073 units sold.
With the demise of the Fiesta, that also means that the United States will miss out on the fun Fiesta ST as well. What buyers will actually care about is the fact that early next year, Ford will introduce the new subcompact EcoSport crossover.
