Late last year it was reported that Nissan wasn’t 100 percent sure that it would create a new Z car, but with the 50th anniversary of the original Z just around the corner we have some good news. Nissan has confirmed that it is working on a next-generation Nissan Z and we might even get a preview next year.
Speaking to Australia’s WhichCar, Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design confirmed that work on the next-generation Nissan Z has already started. “The Z-car, oh my god. Huge pressure,” Albaisa stated about the new Z. “You can imagine I’m completely excited that I am in the position to work on that.”
We don’t know when the next-generation Nissan Z will arrive, but there are reports that we could it debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Other rumors about the next Z discuss what will power the it. There have been rumors that Nissan is working with Mercedes-Benz, while another report claims that the next Z will borrow the turbocharged 3.0L V6 from the Infiniti Q60 and might even be called the 400Z. Either way it’s great news to hear that Nissan hasn’t decided to kill off the Z.
