American Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced that it is filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will wind down and discontinue new car sales in the U.S. Suzuki plans to realign its business to focus on the longterm growth of its Motorcycles/ATV and Marine divisions.
Suzuki decided to cease sales of its models in the U.S. due to its low sales volumes, limited number of models in its line-up, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental U.S.

Although buyers will no longer be able to buy a new Suzuki, the automaker has announced that it will still honor its warranties and parts and service will continue without interruption through its parts and service dealer network.
