Earlier this month Subaru released a teaser of its next Wilderness model. Although Subaru did not confirm which model is in the teaser, it was largely expected that we were seeing a preview of the Forester Wilderness. Now we have a confirmation that it’s coming.

The EPA recently published its fuel economy specs for the 2022 Forester and with it, we have the specs for the Forester Wilderness. The Wilderness will be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and it gets 25 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. Those specs are lower than the standard Forester, which is rated at 26/33/29 mpg.

The lower fuel economy specs for the Wilderness version are expected, since it will likely get off-road tires, a higher ground clearance and a few other tweaks to make it more capable off road.

Subaru has not announced when the 2022 Forester Wilderness will debut.
