Sony and Honda have announced a 50-50 joint venture, which sees the creation of a new company called “Sony Honda Mobility Inc.” which will start selling electric cars in a few years. The two companies plan to finalize the deal in 2022 and begin the sale of EVs in 2025.

Sony Vision-S 01 and Vision-S 02

The new company will combine Honda’s automotive experience with Sony’s expertise in the development and application of imaging, sensing, telecommunication, network and entertainment technologies.

As of right now we don’t know what new EVs will come from this joint venture. Sony has created two concept cars, the Vision-S 01 and Vision-S 02, so there’s a chance that Sony could work with Honda to make production versions. The other possibility is that Sony just works on the tech for the new EVs, like the infotainment system and driver assistance tech, while Honda focuses on the rest.

Stay tuned.
