One of the biggest criticisms of the current Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ are their lack of power, since 200 horsepower isn’t too exciting. There have been countless rumors about more powerful versions, but nothing has come to fruition. Now we have a new rumor that states that the Toyota is working a more powerful GT86/ Scion FR-S with a turbocharged engine that sends its power to all four wheels.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard a rumor about a turbocharged version, but the latest rumor claims that it will borrow the 305-hp 2.5L four-cylinder from the Subaru WRX STI. In the coupe, the 2.5L will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

If the rumor is true, we can also expect several styling upgrades including a hood mounted air scoop that will feed air to the turbocharged engine. The report doesn’t mention anything about the FR-S’s twin, the Subaru BRZ, but it’s expected that it would also get the new high-performance version as well. Stay tuned…
