Restyled 2016 BMW 3 Series revealed: 340i and 330e models debut

BMW has revealed the restyled 2016 3 Series sedan and wagon. The updated 3 Series lineup gets some styling updates, but the bigger updates will improve the driving dynamics, since it gets new front struts, new rear damper technology and redesigned electric power steering.

The 2016 3 Series also sees the introduction of the new 340i model, which is powered by a new twin-turbocharged inline 3.0L six-cylinder engine. The new engine replaces the outgoing N55 engine that powered the 335i. With 320 horsepower and 330 lb-ft. of torque, the new 340i reaches 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. BMW also says that the six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions have been updated for all 3 Series models.

BMW has also announced another new addition to the 3 Series lineup – the 330e plug-in hybrid. It’s expected to arrive in 2016 and will be powered by a plug-in hybrid system with around 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft. of torque. The 330e will be able to travel 22 miles in electric mode and it can reach 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.

Other updates include the introduction of a new Track Handling Package that is only available on gasoline engine models. It consists of Variable Sport Steering, Adaptive M Suspension and M Sport Brakes with high temperature Euro brake pads mounted to blue calipers. The package includes 18″ Light alloy wheels in Orbit Grey with Michelin Super Sport Tires.

On the styling front, the updated 3 Series gets updated headlights that are now available with LED daytime running lights. The 340i comes with standard full LED headlights. The front fascia also gets updated side air intakes, while the rear gets updated taillights and bumpers.

Inside the 2016 3 Series gets new chrome highlights and high-gloss surfaces. There’s also new storage for smaller items in front of the cupholders, while the cupholders now have a sliding cover.

Lastly the 2016 3 Series gets new technology, like the Parking Assistant for parallel and perperpendicular parking.
