Ram is gearing up to introduce the fully-electric Ram 1500 in 2024, which will rival the Chevy Silverado EV and Ford F-150 Lightning. Ram hasn’t released a lot of details yet, but Ram has confirmed that it will offer a version of the 1500 EV with a range extender.

Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. confirmed the news with evpulse.com. The range extender will act as a generator to charge the EVs battery, alleviating any concerns about range anxiety. Koval didn’t provide any details about the range extender, so we’ll have to wait and see if its a pure series hybrid or if the range extender can also power the wheels.

This is good news for truck owners who like to tow, since EVs lose a significant amount of range when towing. The range extender would make it possible to tow for long distances without having to worry about finding a charger along the way.

We haven’t heard any news about Chevy or GM offering its electric trucks with a range extender, but it will probably happen.
