Earlier this month Porsche unveiled the Mission E Cross Turismo concept – a high riding wagon version of the original electric Mission E concept. Although the Cross Turismo concept may enter production, Porsche could use the Mission E’s platform for additional models, like a coupe and convertible.
Stefan Weckbach, head of electric car development at Porsche recently told Car and Driver that the Mission E’s platform, codenamed J1, could support additional body styles. “If you talk about two-door cars or convertibles, the [Mission E] platform will be ready for that.”
There’s also the possibility that not all Mission E variants will feature dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. “We’re definitely discussing rear-wheel-drive options right now,” Weckbach revealed.
So there we have it, Porsche could expand its future electric portfolio with coupe and convertible versions of the Mission E, but one thing we definitely won’t see is an SUV based on the same platform. Weckback also revealed that the J1 platform won’t adapt well for high-floor vehicles.
