BMW and Mercedes-Benz have fully embraced the crossover coupe segment, but Porsche has still hasn’t decided if there’s enough demand for coupe-like versions of the Macan and Cayenne. Although Porsche has yet to give it the green light, Automotive News is reporting that a Cayenne coupe could arrive by 2019, but a Macan coupe would be a years away.
While Porsche has yet to decide on the Cayenne and Macan coupes, it seems more likely that an electric SUV will join the lineup after the production version of the Mission E concept arrives.
“We have to check if it makes sense for Porsche to come with an SUV,” Porsche CEO Oliver Blume recently stated. “But the so-called Mission E isn’t going to be the last project in electromobility. We will continue. That’s very, very clear.”
It’s expected that Porsche will announce what its second electric car will be in the first half of 2018. There have been reports that Porsche’s second electric car will be an electric version of the next generation Macan, which is slated to arrive in 2022. Luckily the production version of the Mission E concept is closer, with a 2019 arrival date. Porsche has yet to announce the name of its electric sedan.
