When Polestar unveiled the flagship Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupe it revealed that the coupe would only available be as a subscription vehicle, which is similar to what Volvo is doing with the new XC40 crossover. While Polestar hasn’t revealed the pricing details for the subscription-only Polestar 1, there’s a slight chance that you may be able to actually buy one.

Before you get too excited, if Polestar did decide to sell you a Polestar 1, it won’t be cheap. “If a customer wanted to purchase the car outright, this is something we would assess nearer the time,” Polestar’s Duncan Forrester told Motor Authority.

“If you wish to understand the cost of a Polestar 1, purely for competitor comparative reasons, the indicative target price would be in the region of 130-150,000 euros.” That pricing equates to around $155,000 – $177,000 in the U.S.

For those of you that don’t have an extra $150k laying around, the Polestar will be available through a subscription service, like the Care by Volvo subscription program. It’s not known if the Polestar will be available through an identical subscription service. Polestar will likely reveal more info next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Porsche also recently announced a pilot subscription service for its lineup. With Volvo and Polestar also introducing subscription programs, how long will it be until more mainstream automakers jump on the bandwagon?
