Nissan has unveiled the sixth-generation 2019 Nissan Altima today at the New York Auto Show. The 2019 Altima looks more expressive with Nissan’s new sedan design language and it’s also a bit bigger than the outgoing model. The big news is that the more “exciting” 2019 Altima is now available with all-wheel drive for the first time and the old V6 engine is gone.
Nissan says that the 2019 Nissan Altima premieres the new “global face of Nissan sedan design.” While overall interest in the midsize sedan segment has declined over the past few years, Nissan feels that the 2019 Altima will be able to reinvigorate interest in midsize sedans. For the new Altima Nissan decided to make the new Altima more appealing globally, so it tapped its design teams in Japan, Europe, U.S. and China to help make the 2019 Altima more exciting.
Some key design details are the new lower hood and shorter front overhang, which were the result of needing less space for the engines, since the 2019 Altima arrives with smaller engines. The 2019 Altima is also longer and wider than before with the rear wheels pushed out further to give it a more athletic stance. The new Altima also embraces the latest Nissan signature design cues, including the V-motion grille, floating roof and boomerang lights.
Under the hood the 2019 Altima will offer two engine options, the base 2.5L four-cylinder and the new 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine that debuted in the Infiniti QX50. The 2.5L is available with all-wheel drive.
Inside, the 2019 Altima’s interior features what Nissan calls a “gliding wing” instrument panel with an 8-inch infotainment system.
The 2019 Nissan Altima will arrive this fall.
