Not to be outdone by GM’s new midsize pickups, Toyota is reportedly going to reveal the next-generation Toyota Tacoma next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Even though the midsize pickup segment has been relatively flat, Toyota predicts that demand will increase starting in 2015.

“With the new entries coming in, the market should expand,” stated Bill Fay, Toyota general manager.

Toyota is already the leader in the segment with 140,747 Tacomas sold in the first 11 months of this year. Since Toyota is predicting more demand, Toyota is planning on increasing production of the new truck at its plant in Baja California, Mexico. According to Bob Carter, senior vice president of Toyota’s U.S. sales operations, dealers have been asking for increased Tacoma supply.
