The Bentley Mulsanne isn’t expected to get a redo until sometime in the 2020s, but a new report claims that there might be some big changes for Bentley’s flagship sedan. According to at least one report, the next-generation Bentley Mulsanne may switch to a fully electric powertrain.

Autocar is reporting that there’s a chance that the next Mulsanne could switch to an electric powertrain for at least two reasons, to stand out compared to the Rolls-Royce Phantom and to compete with a growing number of electric luxury models. With Aston Martin’s Lagonda brand switching to the EV segment to find younger buyers, the Mulsanne could become a more modern, electric sedan that would help it appeal to a new audience.

Bentley has already dipped its toes into the EV segment with the debut of the Bentayga Plug-in Hybrid and there’s a rumor that Bentley could also introduce a four-door electric coupe that would borrow some of its parts from the Porsche Mission E.
