Volvo has confirmed plans to bring the compact 40 series models back to the United States and when it does, it will bring along the XC40 compact crossover. Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson confirmed the news at the Geneva Motor Show last week, “I think it was a mistake not having the V40, not being prepared for the U.S. It was a mistake, but it was in that time when the company was in extreme trouble.”
With the debut of the V90 at the Geneva Motor Show, Volvo has now completed the 90 Series lineup, which also includes the new S90 and the XC90. The new 40 Series models will be built on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which will use some of the same components as the larger SPA platform that underpins the 90 Series models.

Since Volvo unveiled the refreshed V40 last week in Geneva, we’re most likely going to have to wait a bit until the all-new model is introduced. The first CMA based model is expected to arrive sometime next year.
