With the introduction of several new SUVs, like the CX-50, CX-90 and the upcoming CX-70, we’ve we’ve been wondering if the days are numbered for the Mazda CX-5. With the new naming convention, the CX-5 is now the last SUV to feature the old name, since the CX-9 has now morphed into the CX-90. The good news is that a new report claims that Mazda is still planning on keeping the CX-5 around and is even working on a new generation.

2023 Mazda CX-5 Review

According to Drive, Mazda has confirmed that a third-generation CX-5 is coming and that it will be sold alongside the CX-50 and CX-90. Not much else is known about the next-generation CX-5, but it could arrive by 2025.

It’s also highly likely that the next CX-5 will be offered with a hybrid powertrain, since Mazda has previously announced that it will introduce three electric vehicles, five plug-in hybrids, and five hybrids by 2025. So far the only electrified Mazda vehicles are the MX-30 EV and the CX-90 PHEV.
