It’s being reported that the next-generation Jeep Wrangler is going to be offered with a new 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 as an option. The diesel engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission when the new Wrangler debuts in 2017.
Chrysler is adding a diesel engine to several of its models, including the Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500 pickup and Promaster utility van and Jeep CEO Mike Manley recently told WardsAuto that the “Wrangler is on the radar to get a diesel.”

There are other rumors about what we might see with the next Wrangler, including an aluminum body and turbocharged engines.

“I’m confident that the Grand Cherokee will show just how large a demand there is for diesel, and I think what that will do is reinforce the need for us to target Wrangler as a vehicle that can take a diesel,” Manley stated.
