We’ve been waiting for Audi to update the A8 sedan and it looks like that time is coming soon. A new report claims that the next-generation will only be offered as an electric vehicle and that it will be heavily inspired by the GrandSphere concept that you see here.

Audi GrandSphere Concept

Autocar is reporting that the fifth-generation A8 will be based on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that Audi is developing with Porsche. The Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan EV will also be based on the same platform, although it will be stretched a bit for the A8.

The good news is that the electric A8 will also have the same 800-volt architecture as the other models, which all for charging speeds up to 270-kilowatts. It will reportedly be powered by a 120-kWh lithium-ion battery. The new A8 could also be the most powerful Audi sedan yet. The GrandSphere concept is reportedly very close to what the next A8 will look like. The concept was powered by a two electric motors, one on each axle, that generate a combined 710 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque.
