Toyota has announced that the all-new fourth-generation Toyota Prius is going to be revealed on September 8. It’s been seven years since the current Prius was introduced, but now its finally time to redo the best-selling hybrid as sales have started to decline.
The next-generation Prius will ride on a new platform that will help it drop some weight, which should help it achieve a higher mpg rating than the current 50 mpg rating. On the outside the overall shape of the next Prius won’t be a huge departure from the last two generations, but it’s styling should be a little more exciting this time around.

Now that there are more plug-in hybrid and electric models on the market than ever before, the Prius is facing some strong competition, especially from the all-new Chevy Volt. Chevy has already announced that the next-generation 2016 Volt will be able to travel up to 53 miles on a single charge and although the next Prius Plug-in hybrid reportedly won’t match that rating, it is expected to get an improvement to around 30-35 miles. The next Prius PHEV is expected to arrive about a year after the regular Prius hybrid.

Stay tuned for all the details when the next Prius is unveiled on September 8.
