Just a few months ago, Lexus unveiled the all-new LS flagship sedan, which is now ditching the old V8 engine in the last generation for a twin-turbocharged V6. The twin-turbo V6 may sound like a nice upgrade to the LS, but it will come at a cost. It’s being reported the new LS may lead to the death of the smaller GS sedan.

Why? Well if the reports are correct, Lexus has decided to stop work on the new GS, since the LS now features a smaller V6 engine, which would cause an overlap between the two sedans. The GS was due for a redesign in 2018, but due to the new LS and the fact that sales of the GS aren’t great, the GS may soon disappear.

If that does happen, that means that the Lexus sedan lineup will only consist of the IS, ES and LS sedans. Is this rumor a good idea? Not all markets actually offer the ES, so there would be a major gap if the IS and LS were the only options.
