The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will officially arrive later this year and now Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the it will have the lowest drag coefficient of any production vehicle. With a drag coefficient of 0.22, the new A-Class sedan defends the original world record of the CLA.
It’s worth noting that, while Mercedes-Benz does claim that the new A-Class sedan will be the most aerodynamic car ever produced, there’s a caveat. The VW XL1 had a drag coefficient of 0.19, but the two seater was produced in such tiny numbers that it doesn’t really count compared to the number of A-Class sedans that will be on the road.
Accompanying the announcement about how aerodynamic the 2019 A-Class sedan is, Mercedes-Benz has also released some teaser photos of the sedan in a wind tunnel. To help the A-Class sedan slip through the wind, the engineers added front and rear spoilers, a two-part shutter system behind the radiator grille, and even optimized the rims and tires. A new sealing concept was also used for parts like the headlights and almost complete panelling of the underbody helped improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the A-Class sedan.
When the 2019 A-Class sedan arrives, it will ride on the same 107.4-inch wheelbase as the A-Class hatchback. It will also feature the same engine lineup and technology, including the Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system (MBUX).
