Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it is working on a new electric vehicle that will go head to head with the Tesla Model S. According to Thomas Weber, Daimler board member in charge of Mercedes-Benz car development, Mercedes-Benz will release a new electric vehicle in the next few years that will have a driving range between 250-310 miles.
Weber confirmed the plans to Automotive News Europe, where he also stated that the new electric car will not compete with the automaker’s existing electric vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive, Mercedes-AMG SLS Electric Drive or the Smart ForTwo Electric Drive. “It’s something different. It’s unique; it’s emotional. Wait and see,” Weber stated.

The new electric vehicle will likely borrow many aerodynamic features from the Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile (IAA) concept that debuted last week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Many of the features that debuted on the concept could help extend the new electric car’s driving range.
