The 2019 Lexus UX compact crossover will arrive in showrooms by the end of the year and while there are two powertrain options to choose from, neither of them are really exciting. To fix that, Lexus may introduce a high performance Lexus UX F that could pack a lot more power.
Lexus UX Chief Engineer and Executive Vice President, Chika Kako recently spoke to WhichCar, where she hinted that a Lexus UX F could happen in the future. According to Kako, Lexus hasn’t even really considered a UX F, but if it did become a reality, the UX F would feature a more powerful hybrid powertrain.
“The intent of creating this vehicle is not just to create something that’s accessible or cheap,” Kako stated, “but to create a vehicle for somebody that really likes the package that we’ve come up with…. Going back to hybrid technology we want to have a more performance-oriented, sporty image of the hybrid technology that we could offer.”
The Lexus UX F could also give Lexus a rival to other compact sporty crossovers, like the Audi SQ3. If Lexus does give the UX F the green light, it probably won’t arrive for a few years, since right now it’s focused on creating the LC F and a refresh for the RC F.
