Kia has unveiled the new Kia Niro plug-in hybrid that can travel up to 26 miles in electric mode.
The 2018 Kia Niro plug-in hybrid is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an 8.9 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack and a 60 horsepower electric motor. The system has a combined output of 139 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque and sends its power to the front wheel via a six-speed automatic transmission. The Niro plug-in hybrid has a 105 MPGe rating and it rated at 48 mpg city, 44 mpg highway and 46 mpg combined. The estimated driving range when both electric and gasoline systems work together is up to 560 miles.
It takes 2.5 hours to fully charge the Niro Plug-in hybrid using a 240-volt charger or up to 9 hours with a 120-volt outlet.
The 2018 Kia Niro Plug-in hybrid will be offered in three trim levels—LX, EX and EX Premium.
“The Niro Plug-in is the exciting next step in Kia’s progression toward offering more alternative fuel vehicles by 2020,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, Kia Motors America (KMA).
