Kia has revealed the updated 2019 Kia Sorento today at the LA Auto Show. Besides the updated front and rear fascias, the bigger updates include new technology on the inside and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Starting with the outside, the 2019 Sorento doesn’t get big changes, since it was all-new for the 2016 model year. At the front the radiator grille has been redesigned and the headlights have been updated. The upper SX and SXL trims also get full LED lighting. At the lower end of the fascia, there’s a redesigned bumper with new foglamps. The rear gets a new bumper design, sleeker taillamps, a revised liftgate and a sportier muffler tip. Lastly the 2019 Sorento rides on redesigned wheels that range in size from 17 to 19 inches.

Inside there’s a new steering wheel, new shifter knob and a revised instrument cluster with improved graphics. The air vents and the center console design have also received a few styling tweaks.

The 2019 Kia Sorento also has updated technology, including an upgraded AVN 5.0 navigation system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. To eliminate the need for a charging cord, there’s now an available wireless charging tray for compatible Android devices, as well as Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone X. A 630-watt, 10-speaker new Harman Kardon branded stereo system with an 11-channel amplifier features Clari-Fi technology and newly integrated QuantumLogic Surround Sound technology is also available.

Under the hood the 2019 Sorento is available with either a 2.4L four-cylinder or a 3.3L V6. The 2.0L turbo is no longer offered. The 185-hp 2.4-liter engine is mated to a revised six-speed automatic transmission. The 290-hp 3.3L V6 is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is still an option. Kia has also confirmed that a diesel is in the works.

On the safety front, Kia’s suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is now standard on Sorento EX trims and higher. In addition to Forward Collision Warning System, Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Surround View Monitor, the Sorento now offers Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
