Kia has announced that it will start building electric vehicles at the new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant (HMGMA), in the US, in the first half of 2025. The EVs will be built at a new plant near Savannah, Georgia.
The move will make Kia’s EVs eligible again for the federal tax credit, since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act means that only vehicles assembled in America are eligible for it.
“Kia was the first to open an auto assembly plant in Georgia, and our plan to produce EVs in the U.S. builds on the success and growth we have forged together and reinforces our commitment to becoming a sustainable mobility solutions provider,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America.
Kia hasn’t announced which of its EVs will be built in the US.
