Kia officially unveiled the GT concept in Frankfurt last month. The concept featured a new four-door coupe design that was unlike anything with a Kia badge before. The overwhelming positive response to the rear-wheel-drive GT proves that Kia is ready to move beyond its budget focused lineup.

“Almost everyone has accepted the GT as being the right kind of car for Kia, and that says we’re ready to stretch the brand further,” said Kia’s European boss Paul Philpott. “If we can get the same reaction globally as we did in Frankfurt then the GT can play a key role in moving the whole brand forward.”

The Kia GT is expected to go into production in 2013 once Kia has completed changing its existing lineup.
