It’s been 10 years since the current generation Jaguar XJ debuted back in 2009 and after selling 120,000 units of the X351 model, the XJ is scheduled to end production in July.

2019 Jaguar XJ50

The XJ is one of Jaguar’s most iconic models, but it’s also the slowest selling, since Jaguar only manages to move a few hundred a month. Well we’re sad to see the current XJ go away, but Jaguar has big plans for its flagship sedan. The next-generation XJ will be completely reinvented by making the switch to a fully electric powertrain, when it debuts in 2020.

The next-generation XJ will not only rival electric models, like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, but Jaguar plans to move it up market a bit to rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8. Hopefully we won’t have to go too long until we see what Jaguar has planned for the next XJ.
