Jaguar’s sales have ramped up lately thanks to new introductions, like the F-Pace and E-Pace SUVs, but doesn’t that mean that Jaguar is going to ignore its sole sports car. A new report sheds some light on the F-Type successor which might ditch its front engine, rear-wheel drive layout for a mid-engined design.
Auto Express is reporting that the successor to the Jaguar F-Type is going to launch around 2022 and it will feature not only a mid-engined layout, but it will also be powered by an electrified powertrain. While the mid-engined sports car could rival models like the Porsche Boxster, Jaguar’s engineers are reportedly benchmarking the Acura NSX.
If the report is accurate the F-Type successor will be powered by two electric motors, one on each axle with a mid-mounted V6 that will give it around 550 horsepower.
What’s interesting is that the report claims that Jaguar might use the J-Type name for the successor to the F-Type. Jaguar recently trademarked the J-Type name, which means there could be two “J” vehicles in the works, since Jaguar also recently trademarked the J-Pace name, which is expected to be used by a new flagship SUV.
