Hyundai has released a teaser video of its new Hyundai i30 N hot hatch, which is going to debut later this year. The teaser video shows the hot hatch from Hyundai’s new N performance-brand driving on public roads in the UK.

It’s not known if the Hyundai i30 N will come to the US.

“We are getting closer and closer to the final development stage of the i30 N,” said Albert Biermann, Executive Vice President and Head of Vehicle Test & High Performance Development at Hyundai Motor Company. “The road testing serves to check if the driving performance of our first Hyundai N high performance car can meet our future customers’ requirements. We have to make sure that on these challenging UK roads the driving performance is also well suited to everyday use. There are plenty of fun and challenging corners out here – the N Team loves corners!”

Hyundai has yet to announce the specs for the i30 N, but it will be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder. It’s rumored that it could have around 250 horsepower under the hood. This would give it enough power to compete with the Focus ST and VW GTI. That power will be sent to the ground via either a six-speed manual or possibly even an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. A limited-slip differential will also be added.

So the big question is now, will the i30 N be offered in the US? The i30 is already sold here as the Elantra GT and a high-performance version would give the brand another sporty alternative to the funky Veloster. Plus we have a growing list of hot hatchbacks to choose from, like the new Honda Civic hatchback, so it would give Hyundai an entry in the segment.

Stay tuned.
