Hyundai Announces Plans for a New Engine Plant in the U.S. and Future Hybrids

Hyundai has just announced that it intends on building a new engine plant in the U.S. at its sole production facility in Montgomery, Alabama. The addition will cost Hyundai $270 million and add 520 new jobs to the facility.

Engines will start to be produced in 2008 and will supply Hyundai’s plant and Kia’s new plant in Georgia. It seems like the South is the new area for auto production in the U.S., since Toyota recently announced plans to build a plant in Mississippi.

2009 is Hyundai’s goal for their first hybrids. They are hoping to produce 300,000 hybrids annually by 2015.
