Ever since the Honda S2000 was killed in 2009 there have been rumors about a new model. Well it’s been almost seven years since the last S2000 was produced and the rumors continue to surface that Honda is going to bring its beloved roadster back.
Thanks to arrival of the all-new Mazda MX-5 and Fiat’s upcoming 124 Spider, there may be a stronger case for Honda to bring back the S2000. The latest report claims that some of Honda’s engineers recently attended an S2000 owners’ club event in the British Isles to get feedback from enthusiasts.

Rather than adopt a hybrid powertrain or mid-engine layout, like some of the other reports, the latest one states that the new S2000 will stay true to the original with a front-mounted engine that sits behind the axle line and rear-wheel drive. Under the hood we could see Honda’s latest 1.5L and 2.0L turbocharged engines.

The good news is that Honda has also reportedly placed the new S2000 as a higher priority than the mid-engined ‘baby NSX.’
