It’s being reported that Honda may have finally given the green light to a version of the Civic Type-R for the U.S. market.
Yup you read that right! For years Honda has neglected its U.S. buyers, while buyers in Europe and Japan have been able to get their hands on sportier models like the Civic Type-R. Now it’s being reported that Honda may have finally given the green light to a version of the Civic Type-R for the U.S. market.
The keyword here is “version” since even though the Civic Type-R is sold as a hatchback in Europe, only the Civic Type-R’s 2.0L turbocharged engine will be sold on this side of the Atlantic. The latest report claims that the Civic Type-R will be sold in the U.S., but as a sedan and coupe, rather than Europe’s more aggressive hatchback.

The Civic Type-R will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with around 280 horsepower, which will finally give Honda something to compete with models like the VW Golf R and Subaru WRX.
If the report is accurate, don’t expect to see a Civic Type-R in the U.S. until sometime in 2016.
