Earlier this year it was discovered that Honda had trademarked the “TrailSport” name, which lead us to believe that Honda was working on a new off-road trim level for its SUVs and trucks. Now Honda has confirmed the new TrailSport trim level will be added to its light trucks this fall.

“TrailSport represents the next chapter in our rugged direction and will bring exclusive styling to our existing light trucks that will appeal to buyers seeking adventure,” said Dave Gardner, executive vice president of National Operations at American Honda. “Our U.S. engineering team is leveraging more than 20 years of experience creating highly capable light trucks to develop this new series of adventure-ready vehicles.”

Honda hasn’t confirmed which models will get the new TrailSport trim level, but in this teaser it looks like the 2022 Passport will be one of the first models to get it. The TrailSport treatment adds more rugged front and rear fascias, extra body cladding, orange contrast stitching on the interior and all-weather mats. Honda is also planning more future upgrades, which includes more aggressive tires, increased ground clearance, off-road tuned suspensions and extra underbody protection.
