Could GM be working on a crossover version of the Volt? Back in 2011 General Motors filed a trademark application for the “Crossvolt” name, but then in November of this year that trademark expired. Now its being reported that GM applied to use the same trademark in August of this year, which leads to some speculation that GM may actually use the name.
If GM is indeed working on a crossover version of the Volt it could compete with other electric models like the Toyota Prius V and Ford C-MAX. In 2011 GM unveiled the Chevy Volt MPV5 concept that you see here. It was powered by the same powertrain as the Volt, but since its debut we haven’t heard anything else about the Volt MPV5 concept.

The fact that GM has trademarked the Crossvolt name could mean that something is finally in the works, but only time will tell.
