Jeep has finally unveiled the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler, which is debuting today at the LA Auto Show. For the big news, the 2018 Wrangler has gone on a diet, can be equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, and offers three top options.

A new frame design with more high-strength steel and aluminum body panels helped the 2018 Wrangler drop 200 pounds compared to the Wrangler JK generation. The hood, the doors and windshield frame are all made from aluminum. Some parts of the Wrangler are still made from steel, like the rear fenders, since they are more likely to get damaged when off-roading. It’s easier to repair steel than aluminum.

Under the hood buyers will be able to choose from either a 3.6L V6 or a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder. The 3.6L V6 generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. The V6 is mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The V6 powered Wrangler Unlimited is rated at 17/23 with the manual and 18/23 with the automatic.

The 2.0L four-cylinder generates 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft. of torque. A new eTorque hybrid system improves fuel economy, launch performance, and driver comfort during start/stop operations. Jeep hasn’t released the EPA specs for the four-cylinder.

A 3.0L EcoDiesel will be available if you choose the Wrangler 4-door starting in 2019. The 3.0L diesel generates 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft. of torque .

Tow ratings for both models remains unchanged at 2,000 pounds for the two-door and 3,500 pounds for the four-door Wrangler.

The 2018 Wrangler now features three top options: a convertible top, a hardtop or a powered soft top. The hardtop now has been redesigned to allow the support of roof racks and the removable panels are now lighter and easier to remove. The convertible top gets an easier to use design that does away with zippers and velcro. The powered soft top features a large canvas sunroof that can be moved with the touch of a button, but the complete system can’t be removed like with the other two top options.
