Mercedes-Benz will finally unveil the all-new 2019 CLS later today at the LA Auto Show, but Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers is already looking forward to what else the brand has ready for the CLS. In January Mercedes-Benz is going to reveal the hotter Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 at the Detroit Auto Show.

You’ll notice the new “53” name which is going to be a successor to the outgoing “63” model. Besides the badge change, the bigger update is what’s under the hood of the CLS 53, which will get a new turbocharged 3.0L six-cylinder that’s mated to a 48-volt hybrid system. The system will have a total output of 429 horsepower, but we still don’t know how much torque.

The CLS 53 will be the first of many models to get the “53” badge, which will likely show up next under the hood of the E-Class coupe and convertible.
