Jeep could soon introduce a new model that’s smaller than the Renegade. According to a report, FCA is “very close” to a decision about a new “baby” Jeep that be targeted at markets that desire small vehicles.

Jeep’s boss Mike Manley revealed that the new Jeep would be a global vehicle, but it’s doubtful that it would be offered in the U.S. The baby Jeep would be produced in Italy at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ factory in Pomigliano, which also produces the Fiat Panda.

If the baby Jeep does get the green light, it will be based on the same Mini platform that’s also used by the Fiat Panda and 500. Production of the next-generation Panda is actually expected to move to Poland by as early as next year, which leaves room for the new Jeep production.

But before the new Jeep gets the full sign off, Jeep has to make sure that it is just as capable as the rest of its lineup. A decision could come as early as June.
