Contrary to some expectations, Cadillac has announced that the XT6 SUV is coming back. The three-row luxury SUV will be back with an internal combustion engine, a move that underscores the brand’s reconsideration of its path to an all-electric roster.
Word of the next-generation XT6 in development came from Kristian Aquilina, vice president of Cadillac Global, in a post on LinkedIn. As for when one might see the redesigned model on the road, Cadillac has been tight-lipped; it is anticipated to follow the 2027 debut of the new XT5.
It is a change of course for the luxury maker. Cadillac had set its sights on an entirely electric lineup by decade’s end, with a suite of EVs like the Lyriq, Optiq, Escalade IQ and Vistiq to make up the family. But with EV demand softening and buyers still showing an appetite for gasoline SUVs, there has been a push across the industry to give internal combustion models a longer run.
The Vistiq was supposed to be the electric answer to the XT6, providing the same kind of utility for families. Yet its sales have not quite lived up to the XT6’s numbers, opening the door for a reworked gasoline variant. No pricing or specs have been put out for the new XT6, but the confirmation is a clear signal that Cadillac will keep a conventional three-row option available as its electric offerings grow.
