BMW has unveiled the iX3 concept at the Beijing Motor Show, which is a preview of the new fully electric version of the X3 crossover. The iX3 concept is a thinly disguised version of the production version with its exterior styling that isn’t all that different from the standard X3.

When the iX3 goes on sale it will be the first fully electric vehicle from the regular BMW brand, not the the i sub-brand. Under the skin, the iX3 concept is powered by the fifth generation of BMW’s eDrive technology with its more compact design and more powerful batteries. BMW says that the concept has 270 horsepower and a driving range up to 249 miles on the the WLTP cycle. Another benefit is that the iX3 concept can be hooked up to fast-charging stations generating up to 150 kW.

BMW hasn’t revealed the interior of the iX3 concept, but on the outside it gets minimal changes to separate it from the standard X3. At the front the biggest change is the new closed-off BMW kidney grille with blue accents. There are new side skirts and at the rear the bumper has been redesigned.

The BMW iX3 is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2020.
